It's a small world

2004, Video, 3:30 min.

‘It’s a small world’ is a 3D animation of a spinning earth, which was created as the result of a workshop with some Japanese junior high school students. Yamashita and Kobayashi asked the students to draw maps of the world based on their individual perspectives, and converted the maps to spherical figures of the realistic earth by means of a 3D computer program. Their attempt reveals that even this earth we live in looks totally different through each person's eyes. (The characters appearing on the lower right part of the screen are the individual students' signatures)
