A Spring Sketching Trip to Fukushima

2015, Installation, gouache on paper 65x50 cm (7pieces), 54.2x39.2cm (6pieces), two folding bikes

In Chiba prefecture where Yamashita + Kobayashi grew up, primary and middle school hold an annual event, "A Spring Sketching Trip". In the event, students observe and draw a spring landscape. That can be said as the starting point of their art.
Being inspired by this memory, they got on JR Joban line to Tatsuta station, a temporary terminus of the line and the nearest station to 'difficult-to-return' zone surrounding the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant. And they recorded landscape by watercolor, traveling by bicycle in Naraha and Tomioka town where no one lives anymore, overtaken by nature.
