Forest Dishes

2010, ceramics, 17- 26 cm diameter, slide show DVD, 3:30 min.

Yamashita and Kobayashi created this piece in the northern German city of Worpswede. The artists sculpted plates out of clay and, before firing them, put food on the plates and left them out overnight in the nearby woods. Footprints and claw marks left behind on the dishes reveal the presence of unseen woodland animals moving about in the dark of night. Night vision photographs taken at regular intervals throughout the night captured images of hedgehogs.
